The Innocent Rebel Student Journal is designed to give families and classrooms a simple, adaptable resource that enhances the reading experience. It’s a companion guide — not a rulebook — offering optional activities that fit your schedule, your teaching style, and your student’s pace. Print out the whole thing, or pick and choose what you'd like to use.
What’s Inside
📍 Historical Campaign Maps*
Begin the journey with maps sourced from public records, showing the real places and battles the Young family encounters throughout the story. These visuals help students connect geography with the events they’re reading about.
✏️ Copywork Sets
Each of the seven sections covers four chapters and includes meaningful copywork passages pulled directly from the book. Use them for handwriting practice, spelling, vocabulary, or simply to help students absorb the language and tone of the story.
📓 Journaling Prompts
Open‑ended writing ideas encourage reflection, creativity, and deeper thinking. Students can write a sentence, a paragraph, or a full page — whatever suits their age and ability.
❓ Story Quiz + Answer Key*
The journal ends with a short comprehension quiz and a complete answer key. It’s a gentle, low‑pressure way to check understanding. Use it orally, in writing, or skip it entirely — everything is optional.
Made to Fit Real Life
Every family, classroom, and student is different. This journal is intentionally flexible so you can move through the book at your own pace. Some students may complete a section in a day; others may take a week. Both are perfect.
The story itself is rich with courage, history, family, and faith. This journal simply gives you tools to help your student slow down, think deeply, and enjoy the adventure.
Use what serves you. Skip what doesn’t. Make it yours — and enjoy the journey together.
*The maps and story quiz are identical in content to the free downloads available under Free Teaching Resources. Only the design has been changed.
